Notes

Brewed on a Braumeister 10 L, I used 11 L for mash in, plus a 4 L sparge at 70 C.

I ran the mash for about 9 hours while I was at work during the day, and I ended up with higher than anticipated efficiency. BrewBrite was added with 10 minutes to go in boil. I was way over my target gravity, so I added 1.5 L water to bring the gravity down to 1.062. I chilled the wort to 35 C before transferring 11.5 L into fermenter, I dry hopped at ambient temp. The beer was bottle conditioned for three weeks.

This beer was a more sessionable version of my signature homebrew the ‘Demon Soul Cry’ Imperial Black IPA (inspired by the Stone Escondidian). Footnote: the Demon Soul Cry features three of the top 10 most common words used in heavy metal song lyrics. So the Cry was switched to a Swoon.

Brewed for Merri Mashers IPA comp 2018, first in the Black IPA category.
