The Merri Mashers are a homebrew club based in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. We were founded in 2014 and we take our name from the Merri Creek which meanders through our heartland. We’re mostly focused on brewing beer, but we also support members who make all kinds of fermented creations like cider, mead and wine, and even sourdough and other fermented foods. Most importantly, we’re a welcoming lot and new people are always welcome to join or come and check out a meeting.

We just love people who love brewing. You don’t need to have brewed before either. In fact coming along to a meeting is a great way to find advice and resources on how to brew your first batch. We have an equipment library so you can borrow gear – club members are always keen to show people the ropes and many members lend stuff to new people to help them get started. We’re pretty sure we can help you start brewing regardless of your budget, equipment, space or knowledge.
The core of our club is our monthly meetings. Held at a different brewery or pub each month, and on different days of the week, these meetings are a chance for members and visitors to come together and talk beer and brewing. These meetings also have an educational element with experts from inside and outside the club often sharing their processes, tips and experiences. Oh, and meetings are also a great opportunity to share homebrew and get constructive feedback.
Outside of club meetings we organise a heap of other activities as well. We have an annual winter party at a nearby farm, host cider and wine making days, run an annual IPA competition, organise bulk buys for gear and ingredients, take bus trips to local breweries, arrange home-brewed bottle swaps, and finally, our Christmas party each December is the club’s premiere event with amazing beer and food on offer to all members.

The Mashers are also very active online. We mainly communicate through our online forum (open to all members) where news is communicated, questions are asked, advice shared and banter is in no short supply.
In short, we think we’re pretty amazing and we’d love for you to be part of the club.

If you’re interested please check out the Events section for the details of our next meetings.
Or if you’d prefer just to dive straight in, you can join by heading to our Membership section.
Finally, if you still have questions, please email the club and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
