Merri Mashers Homebrew Club
Member Code of Conduct
Respect, Responsibility & Community
Our Commitment
The Homebrew Club is a welcoming, inclusive community built around a shared enjoyment of brewing and responsible consumption. This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations for all members to help ensure club activities are safe, respectful, and enjoyable for everyone.
This Code applies to all members at all club events and activities.
Respectful Behaviour
Members are expected to:
- Treat fellow members, guests, volunteers, and committee members with respect and courtesy
- Follow reasonable directions given by the committee
- Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment
- Members are expected to support responsible consumption by clearly identifying the approximate ABV of any homebrew they serve at club meetings or events wherever reasonably possible.
The club has zero tolerance for:
- Violence or threats
- Harassment, bullying, or discrimination
- Drug use or possession at club events
- Disorderly or unsafe behaviour
Responsible Alcohol Use
- Members are expected to consume alcohol responsibly and in moderation.
- Members must comply with the club’s House Policy at all times.
- Members must not encourage excessive or unsafe drinking.
- Members must not supply alcohol to minors or intoxicated persons.
Online & Public Behaviour
Members are expected to uphold the same standards of respect and conduct in online spaces as they do at in-person club activities.
This includes all digital communication and online engagement related to the club, such as group chats, forums, comment sections, messaging platforms, websites, and social media.
Members must:
- Communicate respectfully and constructively
- Avoid harassment, bullying, intimidation, or inflammatory behaviour
- Refrain from posting content that is discriminatory, abusive, or defamatory
- Respect differing opinions and engage in good-faith discussion
When participating in online discussions related to brewing or club activities outside of official club spaces, members should be mindful that their behaviour may reflect on the Merri Mashers community.
Representing the Club
Members must not speak on behalf of the club or represent official club positions unless authorised by the committee.
Members should not use club branding, logos, or the club name in a way that could reasonably be interpreted as an official statement without approval.
Looking Out for Each Other
The club believes in shared responsibility.
Members are encouraged to:
- Look out for the wellbeing and safety of other members and guests
- Speak up if they are concerned about someone’s behaviour, safety, or level of intoxication
- Report concerns promptly and discreetly to a committee member
Raising a concern is encouraged and supported and will be handled respectfully and confidentially where possible.
RSA Awareness & Training
- Members are strongly encouraged to consider obtaining a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) qualification.
- RSA training helps members better understand safe service, harm minimisation, and legal responsibilities.
Members who volunteer to serve alcohol to the general public on behalf of the club must hold a current RSA, in line with club policy.
Compliance & Consequences
- All members must comply with this Code of Conduct and the club’s House Policy.
- Failure to do so may result in:
- A warning
- Removal from an event
- Further action in line with club rules or constitution
The committee’s decisions made in the interest of safety and compliance are final.
Shared Responsibility
By being a member of the Merri Mashers, you agree to:
- Act responsibly
- Support fellow members
- Help maintain a safe and enjoyable club culture
Brewing is better when everyone looks out for each other 🍻
